What does it mean to be fishers of men? In this Biblical metaphor, the phrase “fishers of men” was spoken by Jesus when he was calling two of his disciples, Simon Peter and Andrew, to follow him and spread the love of Christ.
Just as good fishermen use proper equipment, analyze the environment and use appropriate bait to obtain their goal of a great catch, fishers of men do much the same. People need to understand where others are in their lives and provide assistance when needed without judgement. Those serving with Love INC Southwest understand this concept as well. The mission of Love INC is, To mobilize local churches to transform lives and communities in the Name of Christ. The ministry is transformational, and its hope is to change lives for the better.
Frank Mahar from the Chapel Mundelein is the leader of a men’s group that helped a Love INC client move furniture into storage. One of the men in the group connected with Scott (the client), ironically through fishing, because they both enjoy it as a hobby. Sharing their experiences helped to develop their friendship. This serving opportunity was a good time for community and fellowship. As a result Scott agreed to visit their men’s group, which is amazing, since he had no interest in connecting with a church or other people when he initially sought help.
A men’s group from The Chapel was truly a fisher of men the day they helped Scott move. Sometimes the best lure to attract a great catch is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a helping hand. No person should be the one who got away.
