Roy Johnson came to Love INC Southwest as a board member several years ago. After a hiatus from the board (due to being pulled out of state for work), Roy rejoined in late 2014 and shortly after was given the opportunity to do even more! Roy is now serving as Interim Executive Director and is involved in day-to-day operations at Love INC working with staff and volunteers. Throughout his time serving with Love INC, Roy has developed a deeper understanding of those in need within our community.
Roy shared the story of a blind individual in the community who was receiving a dresser from Love INC. As the delivery team was carrying in the mirror that went with the dresser, the man told the volunteers he did not need it because he would not be able to see himself in it. To Roy, this was a good reminder of the importance of understanding the needs of each individual being served, which is something Love INC always strives to do.
In his first 100 days with Love INC Southwest, Roy has really been impressed by the volunteers at the office, noting, “compassion, serving others and the ability to foster self-worth in clients” as top commonalities. Using Christ’s example, volunteers are able to build others up, offering a hand-up not a handout, while helping them move toward real life transformation.
Love INC provides a unique opportunity to volunteers as well. Not only do individuals get to serve local churches by connecting members with resources, but also they get to share God-given gifts and skills to help others! From moving furniture, to legal services, there are a large number of ways individuals can get involved.
Services provided by Love INC include: budget counseling, furniture donations, job-search services, transportation to medical appointments and much more. Love INC’s mission is, “To mobilize local churches to transform lives and communities in the Name of Christ.” Roy observed, “We could not hope to achieve this mission without the Grace of God and the dedication of our awesome staff and volunteers.”
