Love INC would like to thank all of those who attended our 4th Annual Breakfast Fundraiser held on September 19th, featuring keynote speaker Randy Lewis, author of “No Greatness Without Goodness: How a Father’s Love Changed a Company and Sparked a Movement.” We were also honored that Mark Greene, a client, agreed to share his story about how the Church has been walking alongside him during his time of need. After all, mobilizing the Church is one of the ways that Love INC supports the Church.
One thing that struck me as I listened to Mr. Lewis speak was his definition of what it takes to be a good leader. Randy expressed that the key is to remember that it isn’t about us, but that it’s about others. I want to be that kind of leader, a leader who encourages others and does what is best for them. This is carried out by Love INC’s commitment to giving a hand-up not a hand out. It takes more work but is well worth the effort.
Bill Ferrell (Love INC SW Board Member) interviewed Mark. While he was being interviewed, Mark was so transparent about his story, including his mistakes. Being transparent is the reason why I have grown so much in my personal and professional life. I really respect this quality in Mark and I am excited to see what God does with him and with his story.
Many new people attended who were learning about Love INC for the first time. Others at the fundraiser have been involved with Love INC in some way since we opened our doors over 5 years ago. Eric Lerew put it best when he said that it “feels good to be with people who love others.”
Linda-a Love INC client writes:
“ I want to thank Love INC for the help they gave me in my time of dire need. One way they assisted me was through the furniture provided. I received a recliner, my first ever, and a bed. It is the first time I have had more than a mattress on the floor in almost ten years. It feels so good to be able to get out of bed without needing to roll off onto the floor and then pull myself up. The mattress is so firm that I sleep so much better. I cannot express how grateful I am that you gave of your time and energy in helping a complete stranger. It made a difference.”
The items that Linda received are things that some of us take for granted. I remember a time in my life when my dad went on strike and we had to sell everything because we were in need of money. We all slept on the floor in the living room and I remember how hard this was on my mom because they couldn’t provide beds for us. Many of our clients are in similar situations with no light at the end of the tunnel. Due to all of the volunteers who serve through Love INC SW, dire situations can turn hopeful.
God uses Love INC as a light for many. He brings his children alongside those who need him. So far in this story, God has used an intake volunteer, staff and a delivery team to bring comfort and a smile to Linda’s face.
All of us have something to offer another person. No matter how small you think your offer is, God can use it in ways that you cannot even imagine.
For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
The longer I am with Love INC, the more I see how so many people think of a building when you say the word “church”.
I hear of people within these buildings trying to do their own thing to make an impact within God’s Kingdom.
Even though these efforts do produce some fruit, I can’t help but wonder how much more fruit would be seen if we all thought of the Church as “one body,” the way we are supposed to. Continue reading Words from our Volunteer Coordinator
